BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Luís Eduardo Linares Martínez is a Medical Surgeon graduated from the Universidad del Rosario.

He specialized in general surgery at the San José Hospital, and later advanced clinical and research studies in surgical gastroenterology and coloproctology at the General Hospital of the University of Birmingham in England.

In 1979 he was highlighted by the Ministry of Health of Cundinamarca as one of the best doctors in the department for his professional work with the community.

He has worked as a consulting surgeon for several hospitals in the district and held the position of Director of the Surgical Department of the San Blas Hospital between 1990 and 1992, and as head of the General Surgery Service of the then San Pedro Claver Clinic, from 1992 to 1993.

Between 1983 and 2003, he taught undergraduate and graduate surgery at the Colombian School of Medicine, Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Universidad del Rosario, Universidad Nacional and Universidad San Martín.

He’s an active member of several scientific societies, including those of surgery, gastroenterology and coloproctology. Associate editor of the Colombian Journal of Gastroenterology.  In 1992 he was co-author of the Manual of Basic Surgical Instruments, edited by the Colombian School of Medicine, as well as creator of the Multidisciplinary Program for the Management of the Ostomized Patient in the I.S.S., program that meant him the appointment as Outstanding Youth of the Junior Chamber of Colombia in 1994.

He handles digestive pathology in general, such as diseases of the stomach, intestines, gallbladder and bile ducts, and his primary interest are patients with diseases of the colon, rectum and anus.

He has vast experience in the management of hemorrhoidal disease and its different treatments; anal fissures and fistulas; the pathology of the colon and rectum, such as irritable colon, diverticular disease; and the study and treatment of colon and rectal cancer. In April 2014 he completed the course for the management of fecal incontinence with the use of the neuro-stimulator of the sacral nerves, at the University of Barcelona, Spain.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Creator in the Colombian School of Medicine of the workshops of Surgical Anastomosis for residents of Surgery managing to promote and manage during this period the laboratory of Experimental Surgery.

Impulsor and promoter of different programs of prevention of diseases obtaining this way special mention by the Secretariat of Health of Cundinamarca, for the developed work.
